I've got an old marlin 36-a in 30-30. I got it a little rough and the stock is broke. I will fix the stock and refinish it. I am wanting to cerakote or duracote it black. I know it a oldrifle, and I am wondering would it be a crime to not reblue and change original finish?.
The gun is strictly a shooter/hunter so it will be used.

I got Kyle to duracoat (black) a Marlin guide gun that had more rust on it than originally thought when acquired and it looks great. I plan to have him do my 30-30 as well.

Can you post a pic? I would be interested in darkening ALL my stainless leverguns. Stainless is great but I don't like the look. I was thinking about trying that hydrographic stuff also.

I will try to get some pics posted. If you look under Kyles (Huntak) previous post with duracoat projects, there are recent pics of my 629 that he did in green/black to match the K-22. They look great and he is currently doing my S&W 500 and S&S 29 Vcomp in the same color combo. Doing to G22's with green slides.

Forum member Kotton has also had several guns dura coated by Kyle ( huntak) and they turned out great! I may be sending a couple guns to him myself once I get back

It's your gun, do as you see fit to make it useable to you.

To me the only "crime" regarding a gun is doing something to it so that the only thing you feel you can do is keep it locked in safe and take it out just to hold it. Well I've never been a fan of brass thumb tacks added to a lever gun stock, but not quite criminal

That model 36 is a utility rifle meant for hunting, do whatever you need to improve the utility and hunt with it.

I think will either cerakote or duracote it flat black. I'm going to fix the stock by drilling and putting dowels in. I hope a little better than brass tacks! After I realized it was a gun over 60 years old I had reservations, but I'm good with it now.

I'd say go Cerakote Graphite Black, I use Tri-Jet Precision out of Palmer, usually done in a week at a REALLY good price, Call Meghan- She'll hook you up.
