    Default fire island bears

Buddy of mine sent this to me today ~ a black bear and a brownie hanging out. Its not the best picture, he snapped it quicly on the iphone. He worked fire island this summer overseeing the construction effort of the wind towers. He says they saw these guys hanging out on several occasions throughout the summer. Could a be a color phase black I suppose. Don't know that much about them. I know brown bears frequent the island as I've seen a big one when we were first planning the wind farm.

The one on the left looks like a yeti and the one on the right appears to be his lunch.

Skinny that's funny. The one on the left with its short ears looks like a brown to me. I do a float last year and found several blacks hanging around a family if browns. I guess if the food is good why risk a fight. Nice pictures.

Can anyone just go over and hunt it? does it require permission from any one particular group?

seems like a fun hunt for the bears at least.

Majority of the island is owned by CIRI, with the coast guard owning a small piece as well. When I worked at CIRI the lands manager used to issue permits for moose hunters over there.

Not sure how much of that has changed with the development of the wind project.
