Default Questions on 7mm Rem Mag Ammo?

I just recently purchased a new 7mm Rem Mag Savage Weather Warrior. Sweet gun. Along with it I purchased a couple different kinds of ammo to see what shot well out of it. I bought 160gr Federal Vital Shok Nosler Partitions, 175gr Remington Core Lokts, and 160gr Barnes Vortex. Shot them all and the Barnes and the Vital Shoks shot the best. I am wondering if anyone else has a preference or any thoughts on what works well on Big Game in AK? Also what would you use for deer hunting in AK if I was to use the same gun? Thanks for any info

The Federal Nosler's Partitions are in my opinion, classed as the standard that bullet performance is gauged against. That being said, it's a fine bullet and won't let you down. I personally would shoot the Barnes Vortex bullets because of the terminal performance. The only downside on the 7MM is that Barnes recommends shooting moose with 175 grain bullets and my old Savage in 7MM couldn't shoot them because the rifling was too slow. It needs a 1:9 or faster twist to handle the heavier bullets...maybe your new Weather Warrior has a better twist to handle the heavier bullet? Anyway, I would hunt moose with 160's at moderate ranges as long as the shot selection was through the lungs. As a matter of fact, I would hunt everything with the same bullet except for brown bear. You won't be let down. Here are 3 bullets from shoulder to shoulder hits on two moose over 50 and a goat. The pictures are from a 30 caliber bullet, but I've had the same performance with 243, 270, and 7MM bullets. I didn't weigh the bullets enclosed, but I'm confident they'll have nearly 100% retention after going through all that bone. I would guess the Nosler would weigh in no more than 85%, but still deadly all the same and a great bullet. Good luck on your choice. For me.....it's Kenetrek boots and Barnes Bullets for every hunt. 2014 barnes bullets 002.jpg2014 barnes bullets 001.jpg

I was a die hard Barnes TSX fan for years and killed a bunch of critters with them, until had a few that failed to open. I started using Nosler Accubonds and will not use much else. Accubonds are accurate and deadly.

Thanks for the input and photos fellas. Seems to be the consensus that I am at least in the ball park with matching the ammo to the gun to the hunt. I guess I need to get to the range some more. Hopefully can get out and put a black bear down this spring. Thanks again

Another vote for the Barnes and for the partition both in 160gr.
