    Default 1st time cabin build

looking for any info and/or advice on building a cabin. this will be my first time and to be honest, it's more like a shed than a cabin, i.e. very small; just something for my kids to hang out in. it's going to be 8x8 square, maybe 6ft tall. right now i've been gathering materials and have determined that 6-8" diameter spruce logs would suffice. any tips on notching? also, should i be peeling them now? i realize that this may be pretty hard to do, the peeling that is, although the weather has warmed up quite a bit...for now. will i need anything else besides a draw knife, log scribe, chisel and chainsaw? any other advice anybody may have would be greatly appreciated!

    thanks,
    chris

I would recommend reading the books:

Building the Alaska Log Home by Tom Walker

    and

Building With Logs, in addition to any/all other log building books by B.Allen Mackie

    Chris,

A few friends of mine made a 12'x20' cabin with a loft with just basic tools. I think a draw knife, log scribe, chisel and chainsaw should be fine. They learned everything they needed from a 2-3 books.
