    Default Whittier crabbing today

Well launched the "Knot Too Shabby" out of Whittier today with AKluvr95 in hopes to find a limit of tanner crabs. Dropped a couple pots in wells passage and soaked them for the day. Nothing. Not a single crab. Beautiful day out though. A little rough in passage but nice and flat in port wells. Held up in Bettles bay for the day watching the otters play. Sure was nice to get the boat back in the water to break up winter. BTW. Take chains if you launch. It's a little icy.

Sounds like a great advertisement for ESPAR! How much snow?

Nice! Jealous! Did you slide down the launch? I've heard Pigot has tanners..

The ESPAR sipped about a half gallon of fuel all day. It was t-shirt weather inside the cabin for sure. The ramp wasn't bad except for the upper part where they didn't plow at all. Chains helped a lot. Might could have done it without them, but we would have slipped down a bit for sure. We didn't drop in Pigot this time. Catching tanners is like finding shrimp I guess. Lots of prospecting and hopeing to get lucky. Today was about the best day to go with the weather we've been having. Sure was nice to get out on the water. Tried out some new props too. Used a bit more fuel than expected, but got the max RPMs where they need to be and gets on step quick now. Now I need to figure out my new MPH/GPH numbers and get back to better money spent per trip. Funny how one trip like this makes ya miss PWS that much more.

Yeah, as bad as I want to go out I don't know if it would help the next three months go better or make it worse. Ha!

For now, espar will continue to create adventure in the driveway!

Totally jealous. I went over to Buster's today and picked up our new memory foam mattress for the v-birth, as I walked to the car the weather got thinking about the sound. We usually launch a Saturday in early April and spend a night, hike a few beaches, collect a few buoys and enjoy ourselves; clocks ticking for sure.

Great story, what a treat and a taunt at the same time! Hard to believe getting to launch in PWS in January, and just be out there, crabs or not. I am guessing those new props are lower pitch, Rob, so if you hit the speed you used to, that is the factor in higher fuel use. But, I think if you are hitting your top rpm now, that your fuel economy will be better than before, if you can live with cruising at 26-28 mph...

Glad I read what you did, but all of a sudden the winter DOES seem like it's gonna be forever! Thanks for the post

FWIW, not that I was searching for them, but I have picked up some nice tanners by accident hanging onto my shrimp pots in the head of Blackstone in years past, only early in the season though.

I have caught some tanners across the bay from the launch by the falls. Also some at the head of pigot.

Okay Rob, I know there had to be some pictures of the day. You know what they say 'picture or it didn't happen'.

Seriously...this is without excuse. I may have to add a rule regarding fishing or hunting reports without pictures. Such behavior cannot be tolerated.

Parked at Kroto and rode past P-ville thru the canyon. It was snowing hard back there and the light sucked, so we headed back and took the left at the Forks rubble. That side had some great snow. Hardly no crust and lots of fresh deep powder. By 2:00 or so, the light got better and it got really fun. All the trails are groomed really nice too.
