Default The most memorable New Years Eve to date!

This New Years Eve will be one I will not forget in my lifetime. We had a pretty rough storm that hit on the 30th and I spent the day at the Wasilla Airport adding rope to my tiedowns, parking my F350 in front of the plane as a little added insurance and then hanging around the airport and my instructors hanger wishing I was out flying. Well yesterday that did a 180 degree flop. I awoke to 3-5kt winds at wasilla, not a cloud in the sky and the 40 deg temps decide to hang around even with the clear skys.

I was at the airport and had my plane fueled up, preflighted and taxied over to my instructors hanger just as the light started hitting the ramp.

What followed was the most enjoyable flight I have had to date. We took off and headed north to Willow and its very taildragger friendly groomed snow runway. I nailed three silky smooth landings and then Bill told me to pull off on the taxiway. I had a gopro camera mounted on the dash and you should have seen the goofy grin on my face as I pulled off the runway and let him out.

After that I nailed three more and picked Bill back up and we were off for the return trip to Wasilla. Cant think of a better way to spend New Years Eve!

Climbing out of Wasilla getting ready to turn downwind and head to Willow.

The same shot climbing just a little quicker and lighter out of Willow!

    And the final result!

I hope they cut out the back of your short or at least your tee-shirt...
    Some traditions should never die...

I like to take out the entire back of a shirt, paint a funny scene on it and then frame it in a poster frame for the new solo pilot...

    Congrats by the way,,,

You will always remember you first solo flight.... I thought I would remember my check-ride flights ,,, but they are just a blur.....
My first solo (PA-18) is locked into my head like yesterday...

I dont think he was going to do it, but my wife made him!
She has been reading quite a bit about aviation and he said that he doesnt do that much anymore, she said "If you wont, I will." I thought that was kind of funny!

It was definitely a day to remember. So far it has been the best weather I have flown in, it was New Years Eve, and my solo all in the same day!
