Wonder if him going missing has anything to do with the hunters that were shot at and wounded?

I wouldn't call him a "survivalist", he is from Teaching Drum, some kinda Wisonsin Hippie thing. I looked at their website after reading the ADN article.
Suffice it to say, I doubt he had the skillset needed for AK in late Fall or early Winter based on what I read there. Some of the folks from Teaching Drum have chartered a plane to fly the area in order to try and "Feel his energy" in the hopes of locating him.

Folks like that give Hippies a bad name.

All this time I thought hippies gave folks a bad name. Sorry Mike.

    All good King.
I'd reply in kind, but I wouldn't want to elevate your heart rate, given your advanced years....

Seems that in order to carry that title, a person should have to have been proven successful first(?).

    Well put.
I'm not trying to make light of this, ok maybe a little, but spending a year in the Lesser 48 playing Injun is a far cry from learning the skills needed in that Country, this time of year.

    Good reads for sure. LOL
We do not go to the green woods and crystal waters to rough it, we go to smooth it. We get it rough enough at home; in towns and cities; in shops, offices, stores, banks anywhere that we may be placed

Nope.....you just need a BIG knife, and delusions. Remember Tim Treadwell survived.....till the bear thought he looked better than grass and sea weed.

You can't get lost in the L48. At dusk just turn around slowly and look for the brightest glow on the horizon. Head that way, it is the nearest Walmart.

Actually, I would say that Treadwell merely existed until the fateful day. Giving Treadwell the label as a survivalist means that anyone and everyone with a pulse is a survivalist...until they aint anymore....

So, a survivalist (that makes the news) is someone who did something stupid then survived to tell about it. Those that did all the planning, had no difficulties, took pictures and told everyone what a tough but good time they had are called? Oh, right...OUTDOORSMEN

    Bingo.

I remember, years ago, watching some TV special about Treadwell and the bears. When it was over, I told my wife, "There's a walking dead man."
