Thread: Alaska Forum on Hit List

Default Alaska Forum on Hit List

NEWS today the current administration is trying to get the UN to take over policeing the internet. The US will help fund the internet police force. With the current UN's stance against firearms this forum could be on the list to go. Since the UN has no requirements to get a warrant or recognize the First Amendment we would have no recourse. The shooting sites could be monitored or sensored.

Here's a news flash for ya; everything on the internet is already monitored.

How is the OP's post anything other than another attempt to use AOD to host just another anti government rant?

While everything on the internet is already monitored it falls under US laws and jurisdiction. The transfer of the internet to the UN circumvents those laws and lets other people control what you and I say and on which forums we can say them. That's the difference, the US has a first amendment not so trhe UN. The person who would be affected can and should know these actions are taking place. Nothing I said was political just based on news.

The Chinese govt, with all it's power and technology cannot keep the Chinese people from posting whatever they want on the net. Our own government, with all it's power and technology cannot stop child pornography on the net. The UN will find it difficult to even hire people competent to stop free speech on the net. The UN doesn't have enough money to do anything, they can't even field a decent security force.

As much as I'd like to get worked up over this...I can't. The UN can't regulate what people say, heck- they can't regulate what they already are supposed to regulate.

In all earnestness though- I actually remember life before the Internet and it was good.

So, the UN is going to shut down this and any other sight that talks about guns. THEY (it is always they) are going to take away our ability to say what we want on the internet. THEY (there they go again) are going to monitor every word we say and hold it against us some how. DUDE, maybe you are catastrophizing this just a little. Thanks for the heads up though. I should not have even bothered to reply, but it is late and this stuff erks me.

In reality, I'm starting to wonder if part of the reason the world's economies are in the tank might just be the result of the increased use of social media like this forum. I know for a fact, and I'm a driven business owner, that I spend way too much time on this box. I know that I had to ban the use of the internet at work (except for me ) because it got too out of hand. How many millions of hours are wasted yearly by folks on their computers and smart phones ? The end of the internet might not just be a bad thing ????

You're one of those who think prisoners of war are protected by our constitution but don't think it's ok for the UN to violate our constitutional rights, aren't ya?

The UN might actually have a chance at making an attempt to fight spam. Our federal authorities certainly have not done so, and cannot, due to jurisdiction concerns (not to mention manpower).

What about his post was anti-government? A person raising a concern, however paper thin, is not equivalent to making an anarchist, revolutionist or terrorist statement (true forms of pure anti-government sentiment). Stop putting words in us right wingers mouth or equating our points with points we arent making. We are 100% FOR a limited, contitutional government and despise any step our current one makes toward being more uncaccountable to the people. I didn't hear him say a thing about needing to take any sort of anti government action. Unless you assume all righties are so slobbering, knuckle dragging dumb that we cant have any sort of pbjection to our governments actions without being AGANST our government or form of government.

I've seen the anarchist flag flown at more than one Occupy rally though. If you're so concerned, you should go tell those guys to straighten out their anti-government sentiment, iofthetaiga. Or you could let the man speak without trying to shut him down, like you do to every right wing thread. I think it's a paranoid, slightly delusional story too. Let the man talk.

You know, while the current news story he was blustering about is bogus, his broader point is absolutely coreect. If any sort of broader scale internet regulation/monitoring is instituted, worldwide or in this country, forums like these will be under the microscope by God knows what agency. It's how they're catching terrorists and nailing online pirates, it's always been one of the most likely spots to find people interested in comitting the crime they're investigating. I have no confidence that our government wouldn't overstep it's bounds in their monitoring/investigating of sites like this for wackos. Under the NADA act, they did give themselves the power to pick up american citizens without due process and hold them. It doesn't seem like boldface abuse of that is right around the corner, but it is scary to think about what could be a ways around the corner.
I don't understand people who seem to trust their government so much and think everything is a-ok because there guy is in. There sure was a s***load of republicans who did that during the 8 years Bush was in office and are going 'whoops' now that they are able to see a little more clearly and realizing the kind of giant steps of overreach that that administration made.

Here is something you should worry about.........We are all going to die, yes we really are all going to die. Worry about your own mortality, and if you are getting as much quality out of each day. Or if you are wasting your life worring about things you have NO real power to CHANGE, or if you are sucking the value out of other peoples life like a vampire. Look if you really can effect a change, I say go for it. However I doubt there is anyone on this forum who has any power over the management of the United Nations. If you do, then get'r done.

Well, we can rest assured they won't find any wackos posting here on AOD.
