Default Subsistence hunting yay or nah

Question: Should subsistence hunting outside of sport hunting be allowed in Alaska, giving priority to those who need the resource most?
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.

This is a very grey question. Too me it would seem that special subsistance permits should be provided to people who reside in the bush to take animals in their local area for subsistance purposes. However the current subsistance program is obviously filled with a bunch of usles rhetoric to nearly eliminate hunting in certain regions. Only 2 groups of people can hunt most subsistance hunts and they are liars (the majority) or the 5 people that honestly fit the program requirements. So I would vote "no" under the understanding that you are refering to the current system. A revised system that take into account location of your residence, financial need, with a fair registration permit to fill the harvest goal makes alot more sense. my 2¢

It really goes beyond grey. This is the type of question some use to skew reality. It's much too simple to reflect the issue, and cannot even approach what we need to realize in order to create and maintain a reasonable subsistence policy.

Yes, but not under the tier II system. I wouldn't even care if there was a separate permitting and reporting system. I don't even have any problem buying a license and have harvest limits if I would be allowed to take an animal when I need it. I currently live 60 miles from the nearest road or service, because Anchorage is the most practical place to shop and have mail delivered that what I do. However the state and feds. in their infinite wisdom consider me an urban resident therefore not eligible for tier II. At the very least when a species is at a low population the local residents of that area should have first shot, whether they are rural or urban.

If subsistance is allowed, then all Alaskians are subsistance users. It so states in our constatution. The courts have already decided that.

    Default fed management

The Federal subsistence system that is in place managed by Zip Code is a joke.

I agree! All Alaskans residents subsist in one way or another! Greybeard, you are absolutely correct in stating that Article 8 of the Alaska Constitution GARENTEES a "sustain" resource for use by ALL Alaskans!

Very well put. And it should go in the books worded precisely that way (starting with "if").

I bet Tongans would hunt the most!

That the one most single reason I didn't vote for him the last two times! In my book he is a traitor and should have been impeached!
