    Default Trail Report/ Alaska's Winter Park Cabins/ Willow 11/23/12

    First of the Season Report

Temps are 0 to 10 durring the day.
Ice on the lakes is 10 to 14 thick. With 6 to 8inches of snow.
We have marked the trails out to the Willow Swamp.
Also have groomed the trails to there!
Condishions are early season and some people have been on the river and up to Lake Creek.
The river is rough. And not much snow.
It's a good time to break out the machine and work out any problems that come up!
The lakes are fun to play on. And the kids can have a blast.

Do your snow dance. And hope to see you in Willow Soon!!!!!

    Hey Trail Boss,

Hows the weather looking for the weekend? I would like to get my girlfriend out on some easy to ride trails. Are you guys expecting big wind?

Tried going to the cabin via Big Su/Deshka Landing heading south on the Big Su.
I wast turned around by a couple guys in the parking lot telling me the river (confluence with main channel at Big Su) about 2-3 miles below the launch had opened back up and was impassable (safely).
They were coming in from their cabins and called in an airplane to pick them up and left the sleds at the cabin. They said it was safe to head out a few days ago but now was rolling open water tight to the bank.
Wondering when the crossover trail will be in or safer travels for the main part of the river???
    FYI...

There are ways around that problem. If you got a Willow Map look at the Rolly Creek trailand you will see a trail that takes off of it. to the islands at the month of the Deshka. A little bumpy but gets you by the river problem.
Also the Deshka river Xover is being used. People are bumping there way up to as far as Mono lakes.

    Pray to the snow Gods!!!!!

Tried to make a run up the river yesterday. Cold (-17* at parking lot).
The river is rough as heck. Overflow is deep at the mouth of Deshka.....sunk a machine there and had to be towed home.
I'd wait till there's more snow.....only saw one person all day on the river. If you get in trouble it's pretty lonely out there as the usual cabin commuters have not started yet.
