Thread: First day Five Point

    Default First day Five Point

Went this afternoon and about 4:00pm took a five point with a 16" spread at 145yds with 7mm08 160gr Speer SPBT. In Mississippi it is 10" spread or 13" beam either or, so got meat for the freezer. Yes, this 7mm08 had dropped 3 bucks (this being the smallest) and one doe since this time last yer.

Congratulations! The 7mm-08 is a great deer rifle. Have you cronographed those 160's yet?

Yes, with this 24" barrel and W760 I get 2818fps as the low and 2821 as the high you can notice the high fps in the small box to the right on the picture.

Thanks, those are impressive numbers for the 7mm-08 pushing a 160gr. I was expecting to hear something a little slower. Those numebrs are inline with what I've expereinced with the 140's. Sounds like you got a good load there.

Q/L said using w760 with the 160gr Speer SBT in a 24" barrel would give me in this area and Q/L was right.

You must be doing a fine job to have a 3 fps ES. I like the little 7mm-08 a lot. I load for my nephews youth version with the same W760 but a 140gr Partition caps it off at 2775fps.

Good job on the meat, a well placed shot for sure.

When you get a chance drop me a line on how to post full size pictures like that. Whatever I'm doing only allows two pics at a time and they are thumb nails.

Too many animals have filled the freezer this season via the 308 family. They should outlaw the 308 family of cartridges.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the 308 a sniper round for quite awhile as well....???

Still is. The 300WM gets them out a little further with 190gr SMK's and the 338 Lapua is the current long distance king.
