I justgot back from a little trip where I got to go hunt for one afternoon. I wascalling for deer and had this sneak up to within 7yrds.He was a little over 100lbs and had more fat on him than any of us had everseen on a wolf. I wonder how close he would have got if I didn't spot him.

NICE! Obviously you weren't using a wolf howl to call in deer, and still he responded. I bet that got your heart rate up a tad bit. Nice photo, thanks for sharing.

Just a fawn bleat. But we did howl the whole pack back the next night but they wouldn't show themselves, just stayed in the tree line going nuts for an hour or more. I wish I would have had my camera when I got him, it would have made a lot nicer photo. It happened so quick I din't have much time to get excited the other guys were giving me crap about that for a while. I didn't get excited till I got back to the boat.

That is happening routinely in Idaho to my cousin while calling elk, also not with a wolf howl! He says they stay just out of site so he's never got a shot at one but they get scarily close! He now carries a handgun for wolves like we do for bears!

Good work! Some deer will be sleeping a little more soundly. Although sounded like the rest of the pack was still out and about!
