    Default back from Raspberry Island

Just got back and had the best time. Seen some good bucks; some small deer;and came home with this guy.
Hiked up to the top of the mountain in fresh snow ( my favorite ) seen this guy and put a on a great stalk and it all worked as planned.
I don't think it gets an better than that.

I'm heading there in a week. did you have lots of opportunities or just that buck? I've heard there was a 30% die off on the island, but im not sure how raspberrry fared overall. I keep thinking the deer would be easier to spot with the snowy background. thoughts, insights?

Had more opportunities and at some really nice bucks. Just ended up with the wrong wind etc. You should do well as the rut will be in full swing I would imagine. Get up high though as I did not see anything down low.

Fantastic! My favorite deer hunting memory was very similar to yours - a buck up in the high alpine with fresh snow after a long, arduous climb. I was on Afognak instead of Raspberry, but that background looks to be about the same. Congratulations, and thanks for sharing!

The big timber on raspberry can keep the die off lower than on Kodiak.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming-----WOW-----what a ride!

It was amazing just how fat the animal really was.
I was on the NW end of the island and would say yes to less brush.

there's something diffferent about that country,....result of laying up against the Shelikof I think

the country you were in is pretty good as far as hunting travel goes on the Archipelago too, fun to hunt

Did you see any of the Roosevelt's while up there ?

I did not see any of the Roosevelts while there. Also I did not see an bears which is a good thing. Last year produced a charge to within 7 yds. but got the bear to turn before having to shoot. That was the closes charge I have ever had. Makes you really pay attention.

Do the bears really ever go to sleep for the winter out there?

Glad to hear. Tell her we said hi. I didn't do any real hunting this year. Had another back surgery early October with little to no change. But I hope to go do a little bear hunting come spring.
