    Default Harding Ice Field...

Anyone hiked to the field this year?
I'm hoping to take my son on an overnighter for May 5th weekend.

    Thanks!

    Default Gate was still closed

Not to deter you, as it would add only a few easy miles, but the gate to exit glacier was still closed as of Friday. (spent all last week in Seward) I do not know for sure when it opens, but believe it is later in May. You should be able to call the forest service and confirm.

Thanks for the update... going to check on the snow status before we head out.

    Default Exit glacier

You will not be able to do that this weekend. The road is still gated making it an 8 mile walk to the park. The road was snow covered and very slushy starting at mile 4 past the gate last night. And the glacier trails themselves are all snow covered so camping and hiking would not be fun. The following weekend you would at least be able to drive the road. We are having a later Spring down here. Good luck.
I come home with an honestly earned feeling that something good has taken place. It makes no difference whether I got anything, it has to do with how the day was spent. Fred Bear
