Default ADN article October 22, 2012

There is an article in today's paper about two duck hunters who nearly died in PWS when their canoe capsized.

Canoes are death traps. I have one but won't use it unless the water is warm enough for swimming. I hear folks talk about how you can get in a canoe after it has capsized, but a fully dressed duck hunter is going to have to swim to shore.

The article criticizes the hunters for not wearing life vests. Nothing would have changed about this near-tragedy if the hunters were wearing vests. The lapse in judgement came when a canoe was used. A skiff or at least an inflatable dinghy would have prevented this event.
