The only places in state I know of to buy good crab pots is the Gear shed in Homer,Donalsons in Anchorage, And Steve the pot builder at his pot barn in Palmer.

Mine are the larger 4-foot size and came from the Gear Shed.

I heard the 4-foot size [weigh 38 pounds empty] might be better because some of the bigger crab may not have to enter the pot to reach the bait.
This said, I've personally don't have enough experience to know whether this is true...

On my smaller fish deck [24 foot boat w/ extended bulkhead] they do take up a lot of room so I keep them stacked together on the front of the boat [dinghy /radar tower on roof] until ready to bait up and then I bring them one at a time to the back.

    Get the large bait bag.
Also consider the heavy wire clips [big enough to go through the eye sockets] to hang fish carcasses opposite the bait bag.
They make for a great counter ~ balance to keep the pot from falling/landing on its side.

one of my customers from Soldotna showed me a picture of one of my pots sitting on his gunnel and it looked like a cube of crabs, you couldn't even see the wire of the pot it was plugged full.
