Thread: Mallard hole

    Default Mallard hole

Hunted Maude Friday. If you were one of the hearty souls out there it was me and my buddy set up on the shore off to the right a couple hundred yards short of the creek. We got a few divers.

Anyway, Saturday I took my boys out in search of hares and grouse. We stumbled upon a stream tucked away out of the wind on the Matanuska flats that was FULL of mallards. I mean 150 - 200 birds in a 50 yard stretch of creek. No steel shot on hand. Would have been totally illegal to shoot. We just sat in awe at the sight. Wow.

I think I know where I'm going later today.

And God said, let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

I know which hole your talking about I'm fairly sure. I stumbled across it while rabbit hunting as well.... funny thing is, I've known about it for 10+ years, and not once have set a decoy in it!! If I'm thinking about the same spot, its a long walk into it one way, and a hidden trail into it another way... goes through private property unfortunately.

Nope. My need for sleep took over (night worker). I might go take a look in the next day or so. BTW, everyone above, sounds like you have different spots then where I am talking about. Must be a lot of secret mallard holes out there.

I see your point but sometimes life takes over and you don't have time to get out and hunt. My situation unfortunately.

Yeah but we were after hares with .22's and shotgun. We weren't legal at all for duck. No big deal. I know where I will be next year when the marsh freezes.
