    Default Fall 2012 riding?????? Snow????

Is anyone riding yet? Snowing a little everywhere just want to know where it is going to stick the most! Petersville has to have a little and same with Eureka.

Although it snowed Saturday, on Sunday there was still plenty of open water and mud on the trail out from our cabin north of Trapper Creek. With the current forecast, I don't see Petersville being ridable in the near future.

heard of a group that went to the peters hills today and said that they unloaded and rode the road but that they could not play at all because not enough snow. going to give it a week or two. usually you can get a ride in back there about now.

    Default Fall 2012 riding?????? Snow????

Good rule of thumb is that many areas are rideable by Thanksgiving, but do so with caution of fell trees and stumps.

You can usually bomb around Petersville by then but a lot of the creeks aren't filled in enough to cross without getting wet and again, fell trees and a-arm killers.
We do not go to the green woods and crystal waters to rough it, we go to smooth it. We get it rough enough at home; in towns and cities; in shops, offices, stores, banks anywhere that we may be placed

Flew to the Slope on Monday (10/22). Good view of snow cover between Anchorage and Deadhorse. No snow south of AK Range. Meager snow in the Interior and Brooks Range. The most snow is on the north side of the Brooks. So if you want to ride and you don't mind driving 700 miles from Anchorage to Galbraith Lake ... that's your best bet for snow right now.

I rode around the yard and up and down the highway a mile or two making sure my machines were ready to go. Have about 4" of snow around the lodge, but need a lot more. I wanted to just take off cross country with the Bearcat so bad..... but it's just not time.

Great cautionary notes above! Early riding is tough on machines. The rocks and tree's and stumps do not have adequate cover, so it's best to stick to established trails. I've still got a sore neck from an early ride into a stump in 2001... probably should get that looked at someday....
