Default Blast & Cast Report (DCW) 11 Oct

Did a combo trip with Gutleap to Delta Junction blasting for sharp tails and casting for coho Thursday. Clear and cold all day with temp not rising above 32. We started out about 730 on location for sharp tail in the brushland outside of Delta Junction. We located a few groups of sharp tailed grouse and managed to harvest 4 between us. We also saw about a dozen spruce grouse. Probably could have managed a limit each, but we called it before lunch. After a quick stop at the IGA for sandwishes, we set off to Clearwater. After getting Gutleap's boat launched we headed up stream to a check some of my favorite spots only to find them void of any fish. Only saw a couple of fish as we headed up. Discouraged, we decided to try the other direction. We started seeing coho in bigger groups after about the first 2 miles of river going down stream from the campground area. Ended up C&R about 40 fish between us in a couple hours (we were trying for 100 but lost count...haha) lots of fish for sure. ESL still works like a charm for them. In-Line spinners when we casted hardware. Probably my last open water fishing for the year.

    Very nice!
We do not go to the green woods and crystal waters to rough it, we go to smooth it. We get it rough enough at home; in towns and cities; in shops, offices, stores, banks anywhere that we may be placed

A great time for sure. Where else but in Alaska can you partake in a multi-specie outdoor adventure in the same day. This was my first Sharptail grouse in Alaska and also the first time on the DCW.

We all call him "Daddy" because of his infinite knowledge of fishing.

In a sense we are brothers cause we share the same passion for the outdoors.
