Thread: First run of divers for the year..

Default First run of divers for the year..

Figured I'll stop hammering on the puddle ducks and start targeting some divers.. I'm not real great on ID'ing divers, I only know a few off the top of my head. My mission this morning was to find a bufflehead drake that I could get mounted. I just bought 2 dozen bufflehead decoys and gave it my best shot! I was about to call it quits when I looked up and saw 2 of my decoys swimming around.. Wait, decoys dont swim! I have no idea where they came from, I suspect they swam into the spread.. I stood up and shot once as they both lifted off the water, and down they both went! I really wanted to get both of them mounted but the smaller of the two has some blood staining, got hit the hardest (with hevi-shot #4 I might add), and is also missing a clump of tail feathers. The other one should be good to go though! I will post some pictures soon. Ended the day with 6 birds..

Two goldeneye hens..the one on the left looks like a common hen and the one on the right looks like a barrows hen..regardless..both are goldeneye hens..would have been nice to get the drakes.
