    Location: Tikchik Lake

    Case Number: AK12241204

    Type: Aircraft Accident

Text: On 10/07/12 at 1715 hours, the Alaska State Troopers in Dillingham re
ceived a report from a hunting guide at Tikchik Lake reporting an aircraft
crash on the lake. The guide reported that he and a hunter observed a small
aircraft attempting land on the lake when the aircraft flipped over and
began to sink. No one was observed to exit the aircraft while it was sinking.
The guide watched the area of the incident and has not observed a nyone in
the water since the crash. Alaska State Troopers have preliminary
information regarding the identity of the aircraft and pilot, but will not
release further information until a Trooper can arrive on scene and confirm
the information. Alaska State Troopers were unable to fly to the lake to
conduct an investigation on 10/7/12 due to darkness and fog in the area.
Response efforts on 10/8/12, have also been hampered due to weather conditions
in the area. The NTSB and FAA were notified.

Is Freshwater Adventures still in operation? I am looking into a float on the Togiak for June. Curious if they are still in business. Phone number and website contact fell on deaf ears. Maybe just due to time of year. Wondering if anyone knew. Thanks.

I'm sure they are, but if you can't get a hold of them, you can try Rick Grant (Tikchik Airventures) or Tom Schlagle (Bay Air)....Tom lives in DLG year round, not sure if Rick is still caretaking up north at Tikchik Narrows or if he's in New Zealand in the sun.....or he might be in DLG....All great operators and Togiak is a short flight for out there.

Thanks for posting in this thread, Dan. I had no idea of this crash.

I would call the ADF&G office in Dillingham to find out if they're still flying. You can find the names and contact info for all the ADF&G field offices and Area Biologists here on Outdoors Directory at this link: http://outdoorsdirectory.com/adfag-biologists

I think Jerry is a little difficult to get ahold of this time of year. At least he has been for our group. I would think he is still flying because he bought the Goose Penn Air used to fly out to Akutan. Let me know if you get in touch with him. We are trying to confirm our flight out in May.

I believe Jerry is in town (DLG) somewhere; I waved to him on the road a few days back as I was walking down to the high school. He drove by in his truck.
