I really enjoy reading all the great info on this forum. and looking for some input on an economical first alaskan hunt for my son and I. Thanks to all for the input and or advice. Im completely "green" in Knowing where to go and what to get after.

Drain? Isn't that where the plug was pulled? Ps., I'm from Tillamook County.

Welcome Nix, pull up a chair and enjoy yourself while you are learning from some of the best about this great state.

What part of the state did you relocate too?

We just moved to south Anchorage a few months ago. Have employment and lookng for a place on the Service High district. Having troubles concentrating on the task at hand when hunting season seems to be occuring all around me. Need to get out soon but think I will be planing a big hunt for next year. Though I would get a head start on the planing!

Jump on in to the threads and you'll learn a lot. When you get some specific questions (except where the critters are hiding) go ahead and ask and generally you'll get some help.

    Enjoy!

Born and raised oregon boy, from Redmond. Moved up here 4 years ago. Welcome to the land of MILK AND HONEY. I grew up fishing the Deschutes, hunting the cascades and blues.... and all places inbetwene. Kill all aviable kritters too. Once you get your Sh*t together, this is going to be a BLAST. Word of advice: Screw hunting right now, get down to seweard and try to get a late season charter for HALIBIT. If you dont get any, at least you should get some rock fish!!! Spend the money to get out to Montigue island this late!!! Take your son with you too, an out of state fishing permit for a day aint too steep, but it will be fun.

    2. Buy a snow machine and a pair of cross country skis. Your going to need them! This winter, try to get set up with a Four wheeler, it will be handy to pack out all the moose and caribou your going to kill. The haul road archery hunt is cool (and year around)

Get a remote start and winterise your rigs, and start munching the Vitaman D!

I've been through Drain plenty of times, mostly going down to fish for smallies on the Umpqua. I grew up in Veneta and moved up here from Corvallis about 2 and a half years ago. There's lots of things to do up here but it isn't cheap. Things just depend on what you like to do and how you like to hunt. Archery opens some doors. It's definitely a lot different than hunting back home.

Man theres more Oregon boys in AK then I thought, Im originally from Scappoose myself. Never thought I would see someone from Drain, someone from Boring going to pop up next?

Im in the same boat as you nixtr, I got to AK last Nov. but the Army had other plans for me so I have been away since Jan. This forum is a great tool to learn about hunting and fishing in AK, and like has already been stated, they dont take too kindly to folks asking where the animals are. Though most folks will help you with pretty much any other question you have. Welcome to Alaska and good luck!

I'm from the Albany/Corvallis area, the town I was raised in is called Peoria. It's along the Willamette with a population of about 30 people. I have never been to Drain before though. Welcome to AK!
