I recently had a 1970s top eject model 94 carbine reamed to 30-30 ackley improved. I have a problem when trying to load the second cartridge through the loading gate. The first will load into the tube fine and the second seems to hang up about the time the cartridge base is even with the back of the gate. It is very, very difficult to push the second shell into the tube and get the gate to close. Upon inspection it looks like the problem could be remedied by burring about an eighth inch out of the front of the loading port and tapering it slightly again. Would this be safe to do, or would it weaken the reciever too much? Any other ideas? The rifle cycles and chambers fine otherwise.
