Thread: Filter Question

    Default Filter Question

The spin on oil filter for my basically new but long discontinued 1999 Evinrude 4 stroke is available at a premium price plus shipping. Fram makes a cross referenced filter that is available at any auto parts store for about 70% less. I wouldn't think the substitution would be a problem...but thought I'd ask here just to be sure. Thanks.

I think I would cross reference the Fram number and see if anyone else makes one, Fram is not know for making super high quality stuff.

Not a Fram fan. Partial to Wix. If you buy a Napa Gold filter, it's made by Wix.

Thanks Skydiver and JR2. Glad I asked. I've always used fram in my pickup. I imagine all these different filters are similarly priced so if there are better quality brands I'd be all over that. I'll cross ref the fram and check out the Napa gold as suggested and see what I get. Thanks!

Go to Inlet Petro and just get a wix filter and save some money over napa's price.

Just got back from Inlet Petro. They are phasing out of the Wix filter business. So you Wix fans might call ahead to see if they still have your filter in stock. There may be a good discount available if you buy several or clean them out of a part #.
