    Default Illegal moose

The camp next to us brought in a sublegal moose.

Is it my responsibility to report?
Never been much of a tattle tale but am really pissed about it.

    What would you do?

Any possiblity that they have an "any bull" drawing permit for the area? If you know that there are no any bull permits for that area then call it in.

Hey Junk, would you report a known assult, rape, or murder?
As a responsible Alaskan and as a responsible hunter how could you consider not reporting it?

Call and report what you saw, let the law work it out.

Wouldn’t it be prudent to find out what happen first? As a responsible hunter if you find a dead animal you suppose to salvage the meat and antlers and turn them in to the trooper. There is a law that let you do it. If you turn in the people before knowing what happen you could get them in trouble for doing the right thing.

Fair point. If they're walking around like their world just caved in then they're probably aware of the mistake and planning to report it. If they're high-fiving and upbeat then I would guess they're ignorant of the 50" rule or don't care, and if they're acting secretive they know and don't care.

Make the call after you get out of gun range.

    Saw them stalk and shoot.

Waiting for them to come back from another stalk. Will ask them if they intend to call ADFG.

I personally wouldn't talk it over with them first. Yes, it may be polite to talk it over with them first, but if they have a legitimate excuse/concern, they can explain that to the troopers/jury. Mistakes happen, but if they're out there making more stalks, it sure doesn't sound like they're making it a priority to self-report and turn in the meat.

I'm with Brian on this. I would not talk to them either, if they are dirty there will be bad blood and hurt feelings. If they are legit, then the Troopers will figure that out, that is what they are paid to do. I have never had an issue with a Trooper stopping by and checking me out and expect to see them out there anyway.

Would you ask the perp if he/she was going to turn himself/herself in to the local law enforcement authorities?
    Just do the right thing.

Do not talk to them if you do not know them you could be putting yourself into a position you do not want to be on or worse. Let the law approach them

Matt83, Why is doing the right thing a little different story for you, guy...
Are you suggesting it's right for Junk to do nothing about a crime he believes he witnessed?
Look at the picture of the child under your screen name. If Junk believed he witnessed a crime, any crime, against that child should he report the crime? Or should he keep quiet?
    What is your choice Matt83?
It is a simple decision. Nothing fuzzy here.

I don't want to sound like I'm criticizing you, don't you think you should have mention that in the first post?
    Just saying.

So you think there is no difference between someone shooting a sub-legal moose, and a rape or murder since both of those acts would be illegal? I never said it would be right for him not to do something, your trying to berate him into telling the troopers by asking him a silly question like that. If you witnessed someone speeding on the Glenn would you call the Troopers, or if you saw someone run a stop sign or red light? Yeah probably not.

Of course I would report them, but your comparing reporting a rape/murder to reporting someone shooting a sub-legal moose?? Seriously??

Oh and dont you ever dare mention my daughter ever again, do you understand me??
