Default Wondering if anyone has heard of any rams coming out of DS165

I was lucky enough to draw this tag and was wondering if anyone as taken or heard of any rams coming out of this area. Its the Tazlina Glacier to the Richardson Hwy.

Have you not been in there yet?

I think that is the tag my buddy and his partner had. They struck out and didn't even see a legal ram. A buddy of mine flew it two years ago and never saw a legal ram.

Lots of goats in there but few rams.

Terrace Mountina and Iceberg Lake have been generous to me, but that was years ago!

I would call ADF&G and chat with Tom Louhis if at all possible.

Last year, of 24 hunters, 11 harvested rams. That's 46% success and better than most sheep draw units.

Since that area has gone to draw, harvest has continued to rise:
    2008: 1 ram, 20 hunters
    2009: 4 rams, 14 hunters
    2010: 7 rams, 20 hunters
    2011: 11 rams, 24 hunters

There are a lot of other factors (such as last winter) that could affect things, but the harvest data alone would suggest to me that ram numbers in there are rebounding and increasing. Also potential for big rams in that country. I'd be pretty pleased to have that permit in my pocket.

    Good luck!

Ya thanks for the info guys Ive looked at it quite a bit. I was just wondering if there were any good rams taken this year yet. I talked to my pilot and he said the biggest one hes heard of so far is a 40". Ive been up in the Brooks Range guiding sheep hunts for the past month so I'm in great shape and ready to hunt hard. That is if this weather gets better no flying today.

I was just at Palmer F&G and 265 and 260 produced two big boys early. My daughter and partner both scored in 165 too. Good rams are still left I assure you.

You got to look around for the photo evidence but I have it on good authority that big horse strips to his skivvies then swims up the rivers and across the lakes to access the sheep mountains. Heck, he kills Mt Goats as a warm up for sheep hunting!

Just a little at the head of a valley. Nothing really big like the Tazalina. I did deploy my climbing gear for a technical decent. That was fun! Your funny LuJon.
I'm gonna top off the season by trying to haul an elk off Etolin.
CtP don't hold off too long. Inquiring eyes would love to see what's behind that tag.

Well I went in by the Stephens glacier for a few days and saw nothing but snow snow and some more snow. There was a couple feet up top and the snow line was way down in the brush. Even saw a couple small avalanches coming down. Makes for some tuff sheep hunting specially with flat light. Meekins was saying he might have to drop a shovel to a couple guys so they can clear a strip for him to land and pick them up. He was talking about pulling out all the sheep hunters for fear of them getting snowed in and cant get them on wheels. I wish I could have went earlier but I was already commited to guiding in August when I drew the tag. Congrats to your daughter on her ram bighorse that is pretty awesome.

Got this guy the year before it turned to draw and my buddy got one very similar to it as well. If these rams were there then, i can only imagine what the ram quality is like now
