Thread: POW Boot Recommendation

    Default POW Boot Recommendation

I'm looking to get a new pair of hunting boots for an upcoming hunt. I'm headed to northern Prince of Wales island in November for blacktail. Are there any leather/goretex boot combos that would do the job, or should I only be looking at rubber boots?

Would love any specific recommendations. Thanks!

    Default POW Boot Recommendation

I wear the new Irish setter rubber boats.
Do I give my friends advice? Jesus, no. They wouldn't take advice from me. Nobody should take advice from me. I haven't got a clue about anything..

How are those for hiking akmike? It wouldn't be unusual for me to walk quite a few miles in an average day of blacktail hunting...

Xtratuffs are all you'll need. You might even find a leftover pair of the USA made.
I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Waterproof, I prefered Mucks when I lived down there. Better traction that Xtratuffs, but waterproof is a must, especially in Nov.

I personally prefer a boot that dries easier than neoprene and I use nearly waterproof nubuck leather mountaineering/ice climbing boots, about 10 inches high, with a waterproof OR gaiter to give me protection up to the knees. Easier to walk in, and you'll stay just as dry.

This has worked very well numerous times in PWS in november, which doesn't see any better weather than POW.

In November, I prefer Xtratuffs with corks.
