    Default Another What Is It......

Caught this while fly fishing WAY upstream on a parks highway stream. The picture is kinda deceiving, the fish was about 12 inches long and fairly think. My thought is that is a sculpin of some kind but have never seen anything close to this size. What do you guys think?? Hope the picture shows up, first time loading one......

No kidding state record! The freshwater sculpins I've seen we all about 3 inches.
I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

I've sampled hundreds of sculpin for work and none of them were close to 12 inches. The biggest sculpins that I've sampled were coastrange sculpins, which still do not attain 12 inches in length.

There are some pretty big ones in the upper chena river that I have caught (8-9inches) I was told they were just a bottom feeder sucker fish type deal.

that thing is almost big enough to be called a freshwater lingcod rather than a sculpin lol

That has to be a record, never heard of one that big and I had no idea the upper Chena got big ones either.
