Default An old Savage 99 ...

I have found a very nice 99 in 300 Savage. I hunted with one when I was a kid, my dad was always very fond of the gun and cartridge. This oldie is original down to the butt plate a '50's vintage rifle. It is the light weight with straight grip and Schnabel forend. Is it worth $600. Cabela's has one on their used rack and I'm thinking about adding one to my collection of vintage hunting rifles. I found a couple hundred new Winchester cases the other day so maybe that's a sign I should buy this ol' lever gun.

I think that money is about right for a good clean one in 300 these days, I've seen them from $475 to $750 . . . and way on up there chamber in other rounds.

If it has no extra holes, cracks, and numbers match that is a fair price. Factory drilled and tapped have (Savage) to the side not on top of the receiver, easy to see if non factory scope holes are drilled through Savage name. Worth about $200 less that way. Probably a EG model with the forend Schnable.

It's not D&T at all and is all original parts. The stock is refinished but well done. Thanks guys, I'm on a new mission. My son has dad's old 300, he has attachments to grampa's old rifle. I'll see what I can get this one for.

Yup, Murphy I believe you ought to own that one.

The only lever gun that I have never owned is a 99. I have looked at a bunch of them but am yet to make that purchase. I have read many articles about the the little 30 caliber cartridge that does big things. I can't for the life of me figure out why people turn their noses up at the 300 Savage.

I guess if one was sitting on a hill side in a Missouri timber with his back against a hickory tree and even if there wasn't a deer in the woods it would be hard to be bored if you had that gun laying across your lap!

There not made anymore or even in the last little while. Limited supply at best for the "buyer." Buy it! You can always sell it.
