the lakes you talk about do have fish F&G stocks them well, a lot depends on how you fished , if the sun was out it will be slow fishing ,
did you have a boat ? as fishing from shore in sallow water is hard , fish do like deeper water in sunny weather but the lakes on
Base / Fort do have fish so change the way you fish it might help

I've fished Clunie and Walden and have caught fish at both. Walden has some pretty decent sized trout in it. Been a couple years since I've fished it though, we caught em right near the bank near the boat launch in early spring. If you have a boat, early this year we were catching a lot near an old dock or pier. It was straight out from where you park then left around the corner. They were small but plentiful in that spot.

Check out 6 Mile and Otter lakes as well, having a boat or float tube will be a help like everyone else said.
