In August 1984 a couple guys went out in an L-19 Bird-Dog to video tape spruce beetle damage.
Their wreckage was discovered in 1987. A deputy recovered the video tape and patched it together.

It looks like a turn into rising terrain on a hot day with high density altitude. I have seen this tape before during training sessions and I always figured the guy turned that was because the video camera (in 1984 they were big) was solidly mounted on the panel so he turned the whole plane to get an area into view.

Sorta like how the CAP has solidly mounted the FLIR gear on the CAP planes...

Since hunting season is soon upon us... I figured it was a good reminder
