Doing some routine maintenance last night on the engine and I was inspecting the duel belts for ware or cracks. As I was looking at them and the set up, I got a chilling thought. What if both belts failed? I would lose both the water pump and the alternator. What are the chances of that happening? Probably pretty slim to none. But…… you never know. So, on to my question. Since the belts run in the usual tri-angle pattern and the tension being set by the alternator adjustment arm. Would there be any way to add an isolated tensioner that would be just for the belt that would run the water pump off the crank. That way I could isolate each system and lose both in the case of a failure.
