The USCG Auxiliary, Whittier Flotilla, has scheduled a 10-week Boating Skills and Seamanship in Anchorage starting Sept. 11, 2012 and meeting weekly through Nov. 13. The class meets every Tuesday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the BP Energy Center on Benson Blvd. in Midtown.
This is a comprehensive and engaging course that covers a wide range of boating skills, including Rules of the Road, boat trailering, safety, navigation, piloting, lines & knots, boat handling, and much more. The instructors include Auxilliary volunteers with many years experience on the water, and the course is designed to benefit everyone from novice boaters to experienced mariners.
The course costs just $50 and includes a copy of the book "Boating Skills and Seamanship", which you will find yourself returning to again and again long after you've completed the class. Many insurance companies offer a discount on your premium for successful completion of the course.
