    Default sheefish

Where and how could a guy from Palmer go to catch some sheefish? I did read a post last spring about someone catching them through the ice on the ocean (barrow?) and was tempted to fly out and chase them then. Is spring fishing the best bet? I thought I had read that they run in the rivers in mid/late august. I'm willing to travel as needed and put some effort into catching some.
    thanks

I was in Aniak 3 weeks ago and chatted with some guides from Aniak River Lodge. They were filleting a sheefish and said they boated 8 that day. If I were to go the route of a going to a lodge or using a guide service I'd go further north; kobuk or kivalina. I'm not sure what is or isn't available in these places. Minto Flats has them as well and that area can be accessed from Fairbanks or Minto.

I'd go up and float the Kobuk in the late fall. Great fishing and caribou hunting.
