    Default Koyukuk River in September

My buddy drew a bull tag for the koyukuk river in late september and I will be tagging along as a mule. Have heard that shee fish and pike inhabit this river. Anyone ever fish it? Probably take a 7 weight with mainly streamers.

There are huge pike in the sloughs - and especially in the edge water between the river and the sloughs- that will tax your 7 weight to the max. And really for the size of fly you'll be slinging for huge pike, things like some sort of 6 inch rabbit fur strip deal, you'll want to move up to 9wt or 10 wt. Grayling in the river, but IMHO your 7 wt is a bit too big for that. There are sheefish as well, but they may be a bit harder to find.

Just my two cents on the matter. Gorgeous wilderness along the Koyukuk!
