    Default Newhalen River?

Thinking of hopping in the plane and heading over to Iliamna to fish the Newhalen. Not having been there before, I'm hoping someone can help me with the timing of the run? I see the reds hitting Bristol Bay are through the roof . . .

    Thanks,

    SH

Call the Sport Fish area manager in Dillingham, Jason Dye 907 842-2427, they can give you all the correct info.

In my experiences I have usually done really well there between the 10th and 20th of July. When I was younger we used to hit it as early as the 4th with good success, but the mid-July window seems perfect. It's killing me to not go over there this year, but I just haven't been able to manage the time. Anyhow, get after it as soon as possible and you should have a good time. I love fishing that river!

Was just on the Newhalen R for a work trip. It was excellent fishing near the falls. The water was very clear and you could see the fish very well. The fishing got cut short when a massive brown bear came in like a freight train. His body language said: get the heck off mah fishing hole, stranger.

    I promptly left
