Default Small Mtn. Stream Fly Fishing

Looking for smallis mtn. stream within hours drive of ANC to take my 6'6" 3wt. flyrod. Interested in rainbows, grayling and dollies would be nice. Any tips would be appreciated.....hoping to avoid the salmon crowd. Thanks

you dont need to leave anchorage at all. campbell has good dolly fishing and some rainbows. rabbit creek on the south side of town has small dollies as does chester creek.

Drive the highway past Sheep Mounttain. Almost every stream along the road up there has grayling, even the really small ones. Mendeltna was one of my favorites in the old days. May still be excellent, and with a great lodge, if it's still there . . . . .

Can you recommend a decent stretch? Are the headwaters worth exploring? Above tree line have decent habitat and fish? It looked nice from atop flattop.
