Only wheeler in option for an over the counter tag that I am aware of is the 40 mile herd and I don't think it kicks off till later in the year.

Yep, the 40 Mile hunt starts around August 28th (if memory serves). You may be out of luck for this year, but consider either applying for the Unit 13 Tier I hunt (starts August 10th, one guaranteed tag per family) or the Unit 13 drawing permits (starts August 20th, lottery application with decent odds, no limit per family, 3 applications per person) for next fall. For this year, consider looking for black or brown bear if you're hoping to do something before school starts. Alternately, drive up the Dalton Highway and hike 5 miles off the road. That one can be less than fun, though, as the walking is particularly brutal.

Well white mtn hunt is still early and accessible though with lower odds, and in reality is NOT wheeler friendly..several get totaled each year...soon though the white mtn herd will be managed with the 40 mole herd, as they extend their range west .....

Unless there are some physical limitations the haul road hunt would be a lot of fun. Just shoot and hike out one at a time.

I recommend reading the new 2012-2013 Hunting Regs that just came out. In GMU 20's section you'll see caribou pertaining to the 40-mile and white mountain herds have been updated.

I have no idea what Zone 4 has for 4wheeler access, but zone 2 is pretty much boat-in.
Zones 1 and 3 start later, but offer the best option for 4 wheeler access -- hmmmm, how to get a hall-pass?
