    Default Denali Hwy?

Anybody driven the Denali Hwy recently? How is the road this year? Thinking about doing the loop from Fairbanks.

I was wondering the same thing, also are there places to pull off with a 20' camper for the night?

Drove half way in from Cantwell. Road was a little bumpy but in good condition.

Drove from my place at Milepost 68 to Cantwell last night. A little bumpy, but overall in decent shape. Lots of recent rains took it's toll, but still not too bad. There are ton's of places all the way along the highway to pull over any size camper, so you won't have any trouble there! Good luck!

Glad to hear the road is reasonably alright considering the rains. We're heading your way thurs. Hopefully the creeks aren't too high. Wife and daughter both want to break in their new flyrods.

Creeks have been extremely high all spring. There is still a ton of snow in the mountains in places I've never seen snow in July. In fact, yesterday morning, before I left, all the mountains were covered in snow and only about 300 feet above the lodge. But it does not take long for them to drop, maybe a day or two now. Windy Creek, where Valdez Mine Road intersects is the best bet I've found so far this year, or the Clearwater. Most everywhere else is still fishless that I've tried.

    Good luck!

Got back a couple days ago. Did the whole highway from the Paxson end towing a 24' toy hauler. Road was fairly good most of the way considering all the rain. One kind of muddy/slick stretch (less than 1/2 mile) between Clearwater and Alpine Creek Lodge. Water in most of the creeks was pretty high. Seemed better the closer we got to Cantwell. Just take your time, and you'll be fine. If you're trying to get somewhere in a hurry you probably picked the wrong road.

BTW, denalihunter, great 4th of July at the lodge. We'll definitely be back.

Glad you had fun!! We had a blast with it! We have decided to bring Ukulele Russ into the lodge for New Years this year, so should be another fun time.
