    Default Merrill Field Deviation

So, because I did not get my license out of Merrill Field I am still learning the, kinda, complex air traffic rules. Reading through the Notams I was not able to decipher, for sure, the meaning of what I hear often at Merrill and that is a request for a deviation. I am assuming that the request to the tower for a "deviation" is a request to fly above 600' over the inlet on a ship creek departure. Am I right?

A deviation from FAR 93 is simply a request to fly at an altitude other than described by a charted procedure, or by a defined zone, such as the corridor across the arm. If traffic permits it's usually not a problem with any tower with the Anchorage area.
