    Default valdez fishing report

    Hey guys,

I just got done with a bear hunt(got my first black bear!) and so its off to valdez to do some fishing. Ive been reading the fishing report thanks to alaska fish and game but I had some friends go(charter fishing) and they said they didn't catch but a few and the largest was only 60 lbs. I was wondering how is the fishing for halibut, salmon and rocks? I know ling cod isn't open yet.

Also if anyone knows anywhere to catch a few rainbows around valdez, i have family in and want to take them to catch a few! Thanks guys!

I have a big boat for fishing for halibut although im not looking to go way out if I can help it. Still new to fishing valdez(last 3 years).

Thanks guys and happy fathers day!!

There have been several halibut over 100 pounds caught of knowels head and red head. Saw some pinks jumping around Goose. Weather has been good in the Sound. Weather in the Gulf has been poor lots of wind and waves.

Went out today for a few hours. Went out to the Valdez arms and fished around 180-220 feet deep with herring. Had one good bit but lost him. Nothing else. No salmon jumping today but did see a few dolphin. Hoping tomorrow is a better day. Anyone got any good recommendations to go?

    Thanks

Don't get too hung up on the pictures in the fishing magazines of big halibut hanging up, a 60lb. halibut should make anyone's day!

    Cap n Ron,

No kidding. I've been fishing here for a few years but this is only my first full year with my own boat here and those pictures in the Alaska fishing magazine are awesome! Makes me not want to sleep for sure but from what I've heard from easy freeze and from our day out I'll take anything expecially a 60 at this point! I'm ready for ling season to start too

Another day of fishing has gone and went.

Went out to jack bay and galena bay today only caught one rock fish and only a few more bites that were all small bites.

Going to go finish up bear baiting for the week and then head back out next week of weather is like today. Was only two foot seas at most and only got to around 10 kts of winds today.
