    Question Are Kenai/Skilak Lakes open?

I saw a pict on the fishing forum of a fella on Kenai Lake fishing, so I am wondering if Kenai Lake and/or Skilake Lake are open or ice free yet? If they're not ice free, any guestimations by locals when they will be?

    Thanks,

    Tim

    Default Not as of Tuesday.

Kenai lake is open at the bridge and up about 80yrds--pretty solid past that. Similar for Skilak, although i haven't been out there for almost a week. Open at the mouth where Kenai leaves, but frozen up pretty good everywhere else.

    Default How'd ya guess?!

Yup, I saw a pict on the fish forum and the Lake looked open; figured it may be only at the mouth though. I know Skilak & Kenai are probably hard to spot blacks, but I should have my boat out in a week or two.

    Default Should be fun regardless---

I thought the same thing about the burn area on the seward side of Kenai Lake that you can see part of from the road south of Moose Pass. Looks like it would be worth checking out--less your like me and only have a drift boat. Tustameana also has some good beaches to check out. I know last time we went up there the entire area where we first stopped and thought about setting up camp was tracked up solid--needless to say we moved on to another spot with less bear sign.

Kenai L. isopen at the mouth and has been all winter. Fast ice up from there, but it's looking rotten and I wouldn't walk on it.
