    Default active mt bike forum

Took me a while to figure it out, but if you're looking for an active Alaska mt. bike forum where people actually ask/answer questions, share ideas, participate in meaningful discussions, etc. you may want to check out this forum (if you haven't already):

Anyone know a local Alaska forum for roads & trails biking?
Figured I'm all ready a member here in the Alaska Outdoors forums,
saw the Ak MB topic, several readers but few responders but not posting MB mountain stuff.

I tried a couple MB rides in So California, way way above my skill set, walked the bike more than rode it. (29er)
I'm more moderate trails & paved/dirt/gravel roads where a mistakes don't break bikes & bones.
I'm not into the MB stuff

My 29er is comfortable & OK on trials like Eklutna lake & almost any road.
I'm in the "over 60" crowd,
Doing it for the fun & exercise.
When the trails behind the college dry up , they look fun.

No need for a high level Mt Bike or road bike for what I'm doing.
25- 40 miles & 12 mph average is a good ride for me.

Let some air out of the tires for trails & pump them up for roads.

The online forum posted in the first post on this thread is probably the best. There are a variety of facebook pages that get into it here and there, but nothing dedicated specifically to that (there is a couple pages for snow biking specifically, but not summer). You will find that most mentions of mountain biking will likely be beyond what you are looking for based on your description above. There are lots of trails in Anchorage and the Valley, but most of them have some technical aspects that might make it outside your comfort zone. Right now, most trails are still far too wet and soft to ride. Once things dry out some more, there will be more available. The trails behind the college you mention are good and there are some fairly easy ones to ride to get more comfortable with the bike and your abilities.
