the ice is finally coming off up here in the arctic. as the ice is breaking up schools of herring are coming by the tons. the sheefish are gorging themselves to gear up for their long trip up the rivers to spawn. in the last few days i've caught probably a couple dozen of sheefish with a handful being over 20lbs+. this fish was one of the biggest and not really sure of the weight except pretty heavy. I caught this fish fishing from the shore using 8lb stealth braid spiderwire and a #3 krocodile spoon which is only a little over 2 inches long. One of the great mysterious fish of this state i have to say they may not fight as hard as salmon but they sure are fun to catch.
