Default Planned Moose hunt in unit 20a

Anyone know how well the moose made it thru the heavy snow this past winter in lower wood and upper yanert river areas?

Winterkill due to snow should be fine, they didn't get the heavy snow that southcentral received. However, unit 20A bio's have been screwing up that herd for the last 10 years killing calves and cows then registration hunts in the winter for "antlerless" moose. People have been killing off the big bulls midwinter when they drop their horns, which is foolish on Fish and Games part. Thus the herd up there has been decimated, FYI.
Post your results if you have any "luck".

Aerial surveys showed great survival rates. Snow was deep, but no thaw cycles that would cause higher predation due to ice layers and packed snow. Lots of moose around those parts this spring. Should be another good year for 20A.

That side of the AK Range didn't get heavy snow so I don't believe there was any winter kill due to snow.

Yep that herd is decimated; it has better moose densities than many other areas in our state though. If hunters would stop listening to the F&G and hunt somewhere else, we'd have more and moose with bigger racks to shoot. LOL
