Default What's your favorite 30-06 loads?

I don't have a 30-06 anymore, moved up to a 338 Win Mag and still have my 270 Win. But I was curious what folks shoot as their 30-06 load.

    48.5gr IMR-4064 under 180gr Speer Grand Slam

I shoot either 180gr Norma Btsps or Nosler's 200gr Partitions, both pushed by a charge of H4350 and a STD LR primer of any maker. The 200gr Speer spitzer is also a good one and I interchange it with the Nosler using the same load with no POI change.
I also load the 168tsx using IMR 4064, it is generally a very accurate combo but I only load it for my Granddad, preferring the heavier bullets myself.
Oddly enough the only one of those bullets I have actually seen used on game is the 200 Speer. It performed admirably on a caribou for my Fiance.

I have a PILE of 30-06 loads that have worked well on paper and game. However, my current favorite is full case of Ramshot Hunter under whichever 180 gr Hornady bullet fits the bill. Easy to work with and very accurate in my current '06.

I know. I wonder how he physically gets 65 grains in the case. I load 57 and it's compressed.

Mine are shot from a 22" FN Winchester mod. 70. Factory barrel. My MK2 Ruger is about 50-75 fps slower on the same day.
The glue on pressure trace with 55gr shows 61,400 psi avg. With 54.5 gr. it shows 60,200psi avg. This is in MY mod. 70.
So yes, my load is over saami spec of 60,000psi.
A number of my loading manuals show max 30-06 loads in the 55,000psi to 57,000psi range.

AND i DON"T recommend anyone using it. My post was in haste and I should have posted one of my less favorite loads.

As ALWAYS, work your loads up in your rifle.

    As a side note, with 57.5 gr RL-17...180 Nosler AB...large rifle primer...I get ...2780--2790fps.
NOT disputing stid2677 numbers, just showing the difference in guns and/or chronoy, powder lots, temps, elevations, etc.

    200 NP
    61.0 H4831 Surplus

Use a long drop tube to get it in the case

Case load of IMR 4350 works good as well.

Here is the ladder for the ReLoader 17 workup, no pressure signs of any kind. Winchester Mod 70, 22 inch barrel. Load is safe in the rifle it was worked up with. Re Loader 17 has proven to be a very accurate and fast in several rifles for me.

Winchester brass, Fed. primer and a heavy dose of Reloader 19 topped of with a 180 grain Barnes X bullet. It has worked very well. I am looking at loading some of those 168 grain Tipped Tripple Shocks some day, not sure what powder I will use then. So many good choices for the wonderful 30-06.

I'm not. I juxtaposed my numbers. It's 56.0 gr of IMR-4350. Actually a fairly mild load but very accurate in my BDL.

    Thanks for noticing.
