    Default Denali hwy conditions?

Can anyone tell me what the road conditions are? Was thinking of driving up that way this weekend...

I went all the way across on Sunday/Monday. Road was great the entire length!

Too much snow for wheelers yet.

The Highway is excellent at least from Cantwell to our place. Understand it's decent all the way to Paxson also. Weather is excellent! Clear skies and highs in the mid sixties! Snow is melting fast and several trails are opening up. Bears are moving all over as well and the first moose calf was seen yesterday, about 2 hours old. Stop in for a free cup of coffee.

I'll be headed back down June 3rd for several days to give my hand at helping those calves survive... The past 2 springs the bears have eluded me there.

Default Denali Highway Officially opens today.

The DOT made the official announcement about the highway being open today! Great deal akiceman! Come on up and find one! Good luck out here.

That would be great Doug! I'll be back at the lodge either the night of the 27th, or on the 28th by noon. Jen said the snow has been melting fast up here the last few days. Can get down some of the trails now, anyhow.

How much snow do you still have on the ground now? I was thinking about heading up this weekend, but the wife doesn't want to go if there is still a bunch of snow.
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Default Snow

There is not much left. There hasn't been any around the lodge property for the last 3 weeks. Several of the trails are open, and most of the creeks are open and flowing. Temps are near 60 to 65 today. Even all the mud has dried up. You'll still have the left over drifts here and there that are melting fast, but such as the Canyon Creek area, you can get around on a wheeler even in that open country, as most of it is gone.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for the info. What are the road condition? Is it pretty beat up, or have they graded it?
    Thanks again,
    Matt

They have no graded yet, cept when they plowed it. It's in good shape and running 40mph is no problem the whole way. I'm only speaking from Cantwell to the lodge. Not sure how the Paxson side is. They didn't get that side pushed all the way through till around the 14th. Probably still mushy in spots.
