alaska bait in anchorage has gallon jugs for $36. I bought one last week. If you want to make it more water soluble you can try adding soy lechtin (available in the vitamins aisle most places). Also adding some rv antifreeze can help with our cold temps.

You can get herring oil in gallons (can't remember what it costs) and all sorts of other scents at the Gear Shed here in Homer, and probably at the Sport Shed out on the Spit and maybe at Sportsman's Supply on the Spit, too.

Hey Twodogs, what ratio of soy lechtin or antifreeze to herring oil do you use?

I can't tell if this is sarcastic or not... I bought some procure herring oil, it was dyed blue. I have been injecting it in my herring. Seems to at least not scare the fish. Am I wasting my money? I think it was 6-8 bucks for a few oz.

Depends on how fresh your herring is. I've soaked the previous years herring in that procure herring oil and had really good results, when before soaking I was getting smoked by the other boats. Don't need it with fresh herring though. If you have soft, old herring, soak it a few nights in that procure herring oil, with some salt to toughen it up.
