    Default Cordova Fishing Gear?

    Hey guys,

I have been reading stuff on the forum all winter long but this is my first post. I am from West Virginia and I am coming up to Cordova to work for the Prince William Sound Aquaculture program from May-September. I am starting out at the Main Bay Hatchery. Now getting to my question. Is there places in Cordova where I can buy fishing gear? I need to buy a rod, I have been looking at 3 piece rods to fit in my luggage but cant find one in my price range or action I want. I'd rather have a 2 piece anyway. Also do you guys have any recommendations on any fishing stuff I should buy before I leave for Ak.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Eric

I gillnet out of cordova each spring & spend a lot of time in front of main bay most of the season. Everything in cordova is expensive & most of the places listed deal mostly with commercial fishing gear. There is a small bike/fly shop in cordova(expensive) so i'd try to bring most of the gear with you or if you have any time in anchorage go to Sportsmans Warehouse, Walmart(i hate the big box stores but they have the gear at great prices)or if you like to spend big bucks head over to mountain view sports or macafee's fly shop they will take your money quickly. If your going to be at main bay then i'd think you might get by with a medium spinning rod for the reds you'll be snagging in front of the hatchery & maybe need a boat rod for halibut, if you get any time to fish at all. PM me if you have any other questions.

    Default fishing gear in cordova

Try the ACValue next to the harbor, they have gear that's probably the cheapest in cordova

    Thanks for the info guys,

I am looking to get a casting rod. I dont have to have the best, just one that can do the job and take some abuse. I am packing up fly fishing stuff as well. I know this is the general fishing forum but if you guys have recommendations for flies, I appreciate it.

If you guys have any more suggestions about fishing or anything else let me know.

    Thanks,
    Eric
