    Default New Forum Background

Is anybody else loving the new background as much as I am. Now I just need to learn the location of this field and set up a bunch of decoys on September 1st!

Reminds me of what it used to look like on the Kenai flats. Although I did see a few more snows this year than I have in the last few years. That's a good thing.....

Enjoy it while it lasts, folks. We put the wrong one up by mistake. The summer banner should be up by tomorrow...

BTW, we thought this was was perfect for the forums; some of them standing around squawking and a ton of lurkers!

If you think about it, it's the perfect banner for the spring time, with the migration going on full swing right now.

I don't see the banner on my phone but given the description it sounds like the one from last fall was reposted.

I keep trying to find a white-fronted in the mix but I think all the possibles are just fuzzy Canada/cacklers. When does the small game banner go up?

To me, the funny thing is that I never noticed there ever WAS a banner, and I couldn't tell you what the previous one was, but I sure noticed it as soon as they changed it!

Had a flock of about 20 speckle bellies fly over us on the Spur today coming back into Kenai. I cut my teeth hunting them as a kid...!!!

I keep looking at the banner looking for a banded bird. I just haven't found one in there yet. If I remember right snow geese have red neck bands...not 100% sure though. I still haven't been able to find a speck either. 4merguide, my first goose was a speck as well.

Shucks, folks, you're gonna make me feel bad when the real banner goes up! Should be in the next couple of days...

Okay I forgot how crazy waterfowl hunters are (I should know, I grew up on duck clubs down south). Anyway I am attaching the original photo to this for your enjoyment. We reversed it for use on the banner, but I thought you might enjoy it. The photo was taken by one of OUR PHOTOGRAPHERS (yes, go to that link; it has another banner you'll really like), Cecil Sanders. Drop him a line to say thanks!

BTW, being waterfowl hunters I'm sure you all know why those snow geese in the photo all have rust-colored feathers on the front of their faces, right?

Red collars are from snows that are captured in Russia if my memory serves me correctly. Lots of other colors out there too but most won't be found wandering through Alaska.

Mr. Strahan, I know the answer. Same reason some of the Sandhill cranes are brown
